Frequently Asked Questions

How would I know if I need a Feng Shui appointment?

Sometimes people want a Feng Shui appointment for no other reason than they believe it would make them feel better in their space. Sometimes a person moves into an office or a home and instantly realizes that something is wrong----it just doesn't feel right. There are times when a person can pinpoint unfortunate circumstances beginning right after a move. These people usually begin their thought with: "Ever since I moved in here..." An observation such as this would validate having a Feng Shui appointment.

How much will this cost and how long does an appointment last?

The cost and length of an appointment depends upon the approach the consultant is taking. When working with the Compass School, the costs are usually around $500 involving a couple of visits at 2 hours each. Specific birth data is required of each member of the family living in the house (place, date and time.)

If the consultant's perspective is from the Western version of Feng Shui, there is typically one visit lasting 2-3 hours. The cost for this can range from $63/hour to $150/hour, depending on the consultant's experience and schooling.

How do I prepare for an appointment--
do I have to clean my house?

It is not necessary to clean or change anything before a consultant comes. In fact, it would be helpful to let a consultant see your lifestyle. The only preparation you need to do is to have a blueprint or a scaled drawing available to the consultant. Some consultants will ask for this in advance; others will ask for it when they get to your space. This all depends on the consultant's style of working.

What if I don't have a blueprint?

It would then be important to try to do a scaled drawing yourself to save the consultant's time during the appointment. Most Feng Shui consultants are prepared to do measuring of the space, but the best use of your money is to have that done before they get there. If you don't know how or don't care to do this part, the consultant will measure and draw out your space.

After a Feng Shui consultation, will I expect to see results right away? How long do I have to wait before something would happen?

Results can vary from 15 minutes to 15 days. Sometimes it takes a month or two. Obviously, it depends on the changes you're asking for. Sometimes a house will sell within the first hour after a Feng Shui consultation. But sometimes a new job takes a couple months before all the right things fall into place. And sometimes we don't always recognize the change--having a car insurance premium drop in cost may not look like what you had in mind when you specified that you wanted more money. It is important to be open to what may come your way and to watch for subtle changes. Likewise it is important to trust that it will unfold in the right and proper timing for you.

How often do I have to have a Feng Shui consultation?

There are no set parameters for how often a Feng Shui consultation is warranted. Certainly whenever there are major changes in your life it would be good time to consult with someone. Some people feel good having an annual "check-up." Others feel like they had a lot to implement after the initial consultation so they want a follow-up within a few months. The decision to have a follow-up appointment is individual.

How do I find a consultant?

Obviously you want to have a qualified person who has been formally trained. It would be most beneficial for you to interview a prospective consultant by asking them who they've studied with and for how long. Asking how long they've been practicing Feng Shui is also a valid question. Then, above all, see how you're resonating to the person on the telephone. Having a Feng Shui appointment is a personal experience which you will want to enjoy. If you're having some problems connecting on the phone it won't get any better in person! All the practitioners involved in the Feng Shui Institute of the Midwest have been qualified and ascertained to meet specific requirements.
